Mount Alexander Shire has seen a significant increase in Whooping cough cases in recent months, in line with the highest incidence of cases on record in Australia.
Whooping cough is a highly infectious disease caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis. One case can spread to 17 others and the disease is especially dangerous in babies under 6 months old.
Whooping cough can be prevented by immunisation and by vaccinating adults who are in contact with young babies.
If you or members of your household are experiencing a runny nose and dry cough and have been in contact with a person who has had whooping cough, please contact the clinic to discuss how to keep you and your family safe.
