Managing Extreme Heat
Extreme heat can pose serious health risks, especially for young children, older adults, and people with existing medical conditions. Staying hydrated, keeping cool, and recognising early signs of heat‑related illness are essential.
If you feel unwell in the heat, with symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or unusual fatigue, take steps to cool down and seek medical advice if these symptoms persist. Our clinic is here to support you in staying safe and healthy during periods of extreme heat.
How to protect yourself:
- Drink water regularly throughout the day; avoiding tea, coffee and soft drinks as these can be dehydrating.
- Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours
- Use shade, fans or air‑conditioned environments to cool down
- Check on vulnerable family members, neighbours, and pets
- Never leave anyone in a parked car
- Watch for symptoms like dizziness, nausea, headache, or fatigue and contact your GP if these symptoms don’t improve or you’re concerned about your health

Mostyn Street Clinic
Mostyn Street Clinic is a long-established general practice serving the Mount Alexander Shire, located in Castlemaine, Victoria. With a rich history dating back to 1862, our clinic has been a cornerstone of the community for over a century.
Our team of experienced doctors, nurses, and receptionists are dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare for individuals of all ages. We offer a range of services including women’s and men’s health, child and adolescent care, chronic condition management, skin cancer surveillance and management and palliative care.
Unfortunately, we are not currently taking on new patients (except for obstetrics).

Our staff are here to provide you with help and support and will treat you with courtesy and respect. In return, we ask that you do the same to us.
Mostyn Street Clinic is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for our staff and patients. We understand that health concerns can sometimes be stressful. However, we kindly request that all patients treat our staff with respect. Abusive behavior, including shouting, swearing, or threats, will not be tolerated. In such instances, we may need to end the appointment or ask you to leave the premises, which could affect your ability to book future appointments.
