About Us

Committed to the highest quality care
Mostyn Street Clinic is a long-established general practice serving the Mount Alexander Shire, located in Castlemaine, Victoria. With a rich history dating back to 1862, our clinic has been a cornerstone of the community for over a century.
As a teaching practice, we are committed to training the next generation of GPs. Our senior GPs live in the region and promote the health of the entire community. Our registrars are experienced doctors seeking further specialist training.
Doctors work closely with Dhelkaya Health (formerly Castlemaine Health), providing a coordinated after-hours service, inpatient care in the acute and rehabilitation wards, supporting the birth-suite to provide local pregnancy and birthing care, and servicing aged care facilities.
We also work closely with a range of specialists in Bendigo and Castlemaine, and a broad team of experienced allied health professionals.
Our history
Ballara Hospital was founded by Dr. Arthur Machen Hill in 1909 with Nurse Beatrice Thurlby as Head Matron. During the 1920s, Ballara earned the title of the “Baby Factory” with up to 8 babies born here per week.
It operated as a Doctors Surgery and Private Hospital until 1941. When the hospital opened in Halford Street, Ballara continued to be used as a Doctors Surgery and we are proud to continue this service today.

Meet our Team
Doctors

Dr Louisa Hope
MBBS, BSc DCH, FRACGP, DRANZCOG, Dip Pall Med
I am a GP of over 30 years experience having worked at the Mostyn St Clinic since 1994. I trained at University College London and I have done extra training in women’s health, children’s health and palliative care.
I love the variety and continuity of general practice in our great community and I aim to provide a high level of comprehensive compassionate care with education and shared decision making.
When I am not seeing patients, I am walking in the bush with Gary and the dog, seeing family and friends, learning Spanish, playing cello badly and trying to find the time to finish a good book.

Dr Veronica Moule
MBBS (Hons), DRANZCOG Adv, FRACGP,FRACRRM, Grad Cert Integrative Medicine
After graduating from Monash Uni, and completing my General Practice and Obstetrics training, we moved to Castlemaine in 1999.
I encourage patients to be active decision makers in their health care choices, and look at illness with a holistic view. I have special interests in women’s and children’s health, pregnancy and childbirth, and work in urgent care and the acute medical ward.
I provide GP Obstetric support to the maternity service at Dhelkaya Health (formally Castlemaine Health). I also provide locum work in rural and remote Australia in Obstetrics and emergency medicine, particularly in remote WA – the Kimberely and Pilbara .
When not working, I play basketball, guitar, paddle in the kayak, and dance (I’m also known to break into interpretive dance during consults). I love to read, and one day I’ll have time to garden. I’m the mother of 4 sons.
